A school with sustainability ambitions

Sustainability and educating champions of the future are key elements for the Copenhagen International School (CIS). The school has set out to become a 100% sustainable institution and to educate and inspire students to lead the world towards a more sustainable path for the future.

The school building has won numerous national and international design awards with its unique architectural look and 12,000 solar panels on the front. The solar panels not only add to the school's design, they also cover 50% of the school's energy consumption.

Ambitious when choosing partner

Like with all other aspects of the school, the bar was set extremely high when deciding on a supplier for installing and designing the new play area on the school's 2nd floor. The school was clear in their demands. It had to be highly durable in order to be sustainable, and it had to be safe and inspiring for the children.

The school partnered with KOMPAN, who holds the environmental ISO 14001 certification, to build their new 2nd floor playground overlooking the sea. KOMPAN's strategy to play green taps right into CIS's ambitious sustainability strategy. KOMPAN uses sustainable and recycled materials combined with a strong focus on reducing waste in the production.

A great tool for education

The school teaches children of nationalities from all over the world, and thus very different cultures for play. The play area is designed to give the children a universal play experience that will challenge and inspire them to become champions of a just and sustainable world.

Play equipment like Bird's Nest swings, the Supernova, Galaxy structures, Robinia Cottage, and Corocord Octanet and Rope Bridge are sure to provide hours of fun for the children.
