Playing above the rooftops of Schwäbisch Gmünd
in the German town of Schwäbisch Gmünd KOMPAN mastered two challenges - fulfilling the dream of the children to get a huge slide and integrating the playground into a special environment – a wooded hill with a beer garden. The result was a new landmark and unique highlight for the 60,000 residents – a 29-foot-tall cube-tower. The KOMPAN solution brought together exciting elements such as climbing nets to help guarantee fun and challenges. Through bubble windows and a wire frame tunnel that connects the two upper levels, children can enjoy the extraordinary view of the rooftops of the town making the thrill of climbing the tower totally worth it!
The children are not the only ones enthusiastic about the new adventure. For the community of Schwäbisch Gmünd, the playground adds a new benefit to the beer garden as an ideal place for a pleasant get-together for local residents and curious visitors of the town.
When you get courageous, it’s instant fun - Then you want to do it again and again and again.
Zehra and Milena, playful children
Playing with challenges that pay off
On four levels of the cube-tower, children can discover diverse challenges and integrated climbing elements as they make their way to the top, testing many different senses and muscles along the way. The climbing net and tunnel, for example, increase mobility, muscle-training and cross-coordination. But KOMPAN does not just value physical and cognitive training. The social-emotional aspect is also important. The height also offers a mental challenge for the children. A brave face is necessary when entering the wire frame tunnel and the steep climb in open space trains spatial awareness. Whether alone or through teamwork, the thrill of mastering the elements at height helps to increase self-esteem of children. At the top they can be proud of themselves and enjoy the highlight, the outstanding view. Finally, it’s down to earth at full speed and a new climbing adventure can begin.
