Playground Maintenance and Repairs Guide
How do you maintain an outdoor playground?
Congratulations! You have chosen a high-quality product that, with proper maintenance, will withstand the test of time and many years of use.
As the owner, you are responsible for maintaining the playground and its surroundings to ensure all play structures remain safe. In order to protect children's safety and enhance the play experience, a maintenance programme must be in place once your outdoor playground is installed.
Playground maintenance involves regular inspections and updates of playground equipment through a maintenance programme. The programme consists of everything from scheduled cleaning, checking for hazards, ensuring the equipment is in good working condition and caring for the surrounding grounds.
We help you play safe
1. Cleaning
A clean playground is a safe playground. Ensure litter, debris and leftover food are removed to prevent injuries and control pests. Also, ensure adjacent areas and walkways are clean and accessible. Any damaged or broken equipment must be removed immediately, and the product must be taken from service until repaired. This will ensure that you can guarantee the safety and functional reliability of the product. We recommend that high usage or older equipment is subject to a daily inspection.
Please follow the daily/weekly maintenance checklist programme.
2. Maintenance
Over time, some bolts may become loose through heavy use, and the play structure can become undone or wobbly. Loose components on play structures can cause a dangerous pinch, a crush, or shear points. Therefore, all nuts, bolts, fasteners, and screws must be checked periodically. We also repair and maintain any manufacturers' equipment, even those who have ceased trading.
Please follow the maintenance checklist for weekly, scheduled, and annual inspections.
3. Repairs
Occasionally, parts may need to be replaced due to breakage or wear. Parts should be replaced immediately to avoid dangerous conditions. Repairs should be completed following the maintenance manual and the installation instructions. Information about replacement parts and copies of installation instructions can be obtained through your KOMPAN sales consultant or on KOMPAN Master. If broken equipment is not immediately repairable, action must be taken to restrict access to that portion of the play structure or the whole structure if necessary.
Why is playground maintenance important?
Timely playground inspections and maintenance are vital for knowing that you have done everything possible to keep children safe when playing on the playground. Following our maintenance instructions is also necessary for the products to be covered by the KOMPAN General warranty. Robinia Maintenance
Wood adapts to the local humidity, which may cause end openings alongside the post. This is a normal phenomenon that applies to all wood species. It is a natural reaction that might appear on Robinia, and typically, this is not a safety or quality issue. However, routine inspections and maintenance are vital and severe deformation must be considered when appearing on essential areas inside the play structure.
You can retrieve a complete guide on maintaining and repairing a KOMPAN Robinia product and doing a correct repair if needed right here.
Flexotop Maintenance
To ensure the optimum appearance and long life of the Flexotop surface, it is important to carry out regular inspections to detect vandalism, shoe marks or other damage before it spreads to a larger area. All repairs should be carried out by professionals with a Flexotop certificate. Please follow the detailed maintenance recommendations here and refer to the FLEXOTOP repairs datasheet for more information on the process.
