Playground Equipment
Springers
KOMPAN invented a new way of rocking, and we have been rocking the world since 1970
Spring riders are a playground classic, not only are they great fun but they provide a sensory-rich experience and appeal to all children. These stand-alone units can be added to any play area and come in various shapes and sizes. Commercial spring rider playground equipment is designed for children between 2 to 6 years old. It offers them the chance to develop their imaginative play with themed spring riders in the form of animals and vehicles. These playground spring riders are a great freestanding option just waiting for a child to unlock their creative potential, no counterweight or friend is needed to start rocking! For KOMPAN, the journey began with the Crazy Hen, a red hen on a bright blue spring, which was the world's first play design to offer a fun and more functional alternative to the traditional seesaw. Our commercial spring riders come in different designs and materials and meet all industry safety standards and certifications. Find the perfect spring rider addition for your preschool, school, or park playground and enjoy the ride!

The playground springers that we helped innovate are now a staple of the school playground environment and for good reason. Eye-catching and enticing, springers are designed to immediately grab the attention of the children and draw them. It’s this natural attraction that plays a major role in the effectiveness of any play equipment, which is why springers continue to dominate the playground environment and remain a top choice for schools and community hubs alike.
The innate attractiveness of playground springers isn’t their only advantage though. At Kompan, we strive to produce fun play equipment that balances attractiveness with effective development opportunities. Our springers embody this philosophy by giving children the platform to test themselves and develop multiple skill sets through play.
Physically, springers help develop key gross motor skills surrounding balance and weight management. Whilst most time on a springer is spent sitting, the balancing skills that are practised can quickly translate and help with walking, running and sporting ability both immediately and in the future.
Additionally, the rocking motion that springers provide is extremely unique, helping young minds become accustomed to new sensations and offering a healthy platform for them to adapt and learn how their actions affect the wider world. It’s softer cognitive skills like this that subliminally encourage children to challenge themselves, test their potential and thrive in the face of adversity; habits which play a massive role in future achievement and attainment.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are spring riders safe?
Our spring riders are safe as unique anti-pinch fittings fix the springs for maximum safety. The springers are usually placed low to the ground and have low velocity. The taller part in the front of the springer prevents the child from leaping forward. A soft layer of TPE rubber on the seat keeps the children fixed to the springer.
2. Are spring riders durable - how is the spring secured?
All our spring rider animals and vehicles have industry-leading warranties and are made of high-quality spring steel, according to EN10270, which makes them highly durable. The spring can be secured in two different ways depending on the surfacing. Please contact your local playground consultant to learn more about installation and how the springers are secured.
3. Is the tension on the spring adjustable?
The spring is not adjustable, but in some springers, a PUR has been installed to counterbalance and stabilise a weight shift, e.g., the Daisy, the Crazy Daisy and the Water Lilies springers. In general, the springers have just the right amount of resistance to allow children of all abilities to have a thrilling experience.
4. Who invented spring animals?
KOMPAN invented the spring rider in 1970. A hen on a bright blue spring started it all, and we have not stopped since. Today, our selection of springers has grown to a party of more than 30 variants of fun and quirky inviting and playful springers.
