Pickleball
What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is the trending paddle sport that became the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. The small court sport is creating big fun for players across the nation, with more and more cities and parks getting in on the excitement.
Pickleball was created to be suitable for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and easy to learn for beginners, but the game can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game. The best players can go all the way to the greatest tournament, US Open Pickleball Championships.
The sport combines tennis, badminton, and ping-pong elements and can be played as singles and doubles. Players use a paddle and a plastic ball with small holes.
Creating the Ideal Pickleball Court
The standard pickleball court measures 20’ x 44’, the same as a badminton court, with the lines in a simplified orientation of the ones used in tennis. This allows a court to be placed almost anywhere. While the minimum needed to get started is a hard surface and a net, there are plenty of options for creating a custom space for the ideal pickleball court.
If starting from scratch, 30’ x 60’ is the recommended minimum space for pickleball play areas. If your designated space is larger, for example – an unused tennis court, you can easily convert that space to include multiple pickleball courts. Basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, and sports and game areas can also be converted into the next pickleball hotspot.

The rules of pickleball
When served, the ball must bounce once on the receiving side before being hit. When the ball is returned, it must bounce once on the serving side too. This is called the double-bounce rule
When making a volley shot, players are not allowed in the non-volley zone
If items (e.g. paddles or clothing) fall into the non-volley zone on a volley, it is a fault
One game is played to a score of 11
Only the serving team can win points
A serve that hits the net but lands in the service area is re-served
Points are earned when the opposing team commits a fault
The player in the right-hand service area of the serving side always begins
The server only gets one fault and then loses the serve
The server must have both feet behind the service line
The ball may not hit any part of the non-volley zone, including the non-volley line

Choosing a Court Solution that Includes Additional Sports
A Multi-Unit Sports Area (MUSA) system provides a variety of solutions ideal for playing pickleball, basketball, soccer, and more! With barriers, the court area is clearly defined and the option for a high fence will keep the play within the designated sports area. Fenced-in solutions include different gates, so the area will remain accessible to all, including those in wheelchairs.
MUSA systems support and promote different sports, allowing you to offer a diverse range of activities to users. Goals can be added to accommodate hockey and soccer, hoops can be included for basketball, and height-adjustable nets provide opportunities for volleyball, tennis, badminton, and pickleball.
