A celebration playground

To celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, the City of Richmond Hill wanted to create a playground as a tribute to this great historic milestone. The old playground in the local park was revitalised using the red and white national colours of the Canadian flag.

Since the playground opened, it has been a real hit, and the community has taken great pride in the unique design that tells the Canadian story. For the tweens and teens from the neighbouring school, it is the new favourite spot to play and meet friends.

So, we wanted to support the red and white colours. We wanted to keep the Canadian flag - those very strict colours - controlled. And with KOMPAN we got what we wanted.

A playground that guarantees excitement

The challenging play elements are all part of the playground design, inspiring tweens and teens to climb and socialise. One highlight is the iconic geometric shaped blocks that allow children to climb, crawl and balance at their own speed. Discovering new climbing routes provides variety and hours of climbing thrills. The different grip and plate positions encourage the development of muscle strength and motor skills.

But there is much more to discover. This sculpture-like climbing structure is the perfect place to play with friends because it offers not only climbing elements, but also social points where the children can take a break to have a conversation or to rest. Another feature is the integrated movable elements that promote agility and cross-coordination. Conquering the rocking tube, for example, is a coordination challenge as well as creative problem solving. What else do children love besides climbing? Thrills! The iconic Supernova, the rotating bowl and the commercial swing sets guarantee high speed and lots of excitement. It's no wonder that this unique playground has been a favourite since the first day it opened.
