Nature Themed Outdoor Playground
As one of the UK’s leading family destination holiday resort providers, Center Parcs understands the value and importance of its play areas for all its visitors.
Center Parcs operates six holiday villages throughout the UK and Ireland, each covering around 400 acres of woodland. To cater to the resort's ever growing number of visitors, they approached KOMPAN, requesting a complete refurbishment of the existing play area at the Elveden Forest village, along with several other locations within the village.
The client’s key needs were clear, the unique woodland setting needed to be complemented in the play area by using materials, colours, and eye catching structures that reflect the surrounding history and environment. Additionally, a large visitor demographic also meant that every age and ability group needed to be considered in the product choice and design. With this in mind, they required the materials used to be sustainable, natural, and robust, maintaining a woodland feel consistent with the brand and company ethos. As well as this, they needed to add a safe hardstanding area for toddlers to play, which would provide access and inclusivity throughout the year. As Center Parcs operates 52 weeks a year at 95% capacity, the project needed to be completed with flexibility rather than strict deadlines. The aim of the revamp was to increase dwell time in the nearby restaurant and bar.

The Result?
We offered a full range of Organic Robinia equipment, which was the perfect fit to meet their demands. The natural bark surface enhances the magical woodland experience, allowing both children and adults to explore the dynamic elements the play area has to offer, including complex climbing structures, tactile and themed pieces of equipment designed to engage children. A variety of slides, swings, and climbing elements were chosen so that people of all ages could play together and continually challenge themselves as they grew and revisited year after year.
The rejuvenated play area is situated next to a sports bar with outdoor seating and dining areas, so the ROI is set to improve, as well as customer dwell time at the bar. It also serves as a great meeting point for families staying in the village.
