Creating a Space That Maximises Stay Duration

Landsec were wanting to add an outdoor play provision to their current extension plans for the centre. There was a large investment to add leisure & hospitality facilities to the existing retail centre and the idea of creating an outdoor play space for visitors to maximise their dwell time at the centre and secondary spend spurred the project on.

Project Brief: Working with the land owners and centre management team – the play provision would need to have a ‘feeling’ of the centres’ wider environment and community. Taking into consideration the local woods and nature was important, whilst being low maintenance, sustainable and robust. The area needed to be able to withstand high user numbers all year round.

"Working with KOMPAN was painless, they accommodated all of our needs and gave us lots of invaluable guidance and advice throughout both the design and construction phases. I would be very happy to work with them again on future projects”

The Result

KOMPAN worked closely with all stakeholders, ensuring we created a design that not only fulfilled the brief, but more importantly delivered a cost-effective solution to the site and larger-scale investment plans. We provided several concept designs and eventually found the correct solution for all parties. We worked alongside facilities teams during the installation programme – as the play provision would have lighting and electrical feeds for future events/promotions etc. The result was a ‘superb’ looking facility and a ‘fantastic’ addition to the already popular centre.
