St Andrews Parish’s main desire was to deliver a modern, fully accessible, adjustable and all round inclusive gym. They’d had gym equipment before which was unmaintainable and offered no resistance which people just didn’t use in the end. They wanted to bring the elements of an indoor gym outside to create a free to use community facility for all abilities.
The KOMPAN design proposal put forward was not just a token product that looked good, but was to provide a solution that genuinely worked and offered everyone in the community the opportunity to exercise in a fully accessible outdoor gym 365 days of the year.
Strength & Cardio Training
The equipment selected allowed users of all ages and abilities to have a full body workout, including low and high-intensity cardio as well as strength, flexibility, mobility, balance and calisthenics. The dedicated cardio equipment (outdoor exercise bike, cross trainer and arm bike) have the ability to adjust the resistance. The on-screen information and app integration allows users to monitor their performance as well as to challenge themselves and plan their progress. The careful circular layout also allows users to work out in their own personal space or in groups without disturbing others enjoyment of the gym.

The End Result
There has been so much positive feedback from the community with the gym bringing so many different people together to exercise in the outdoors. It has been a fantastic success, being used all day, everyday since its opening. Also, the unique KOMPAN app showing users how to use the outdoor gym equipment plus the recommended workout routines have gone down extremely well with the local community.
