Innovative Opportunities for Children

Hednesford Valley High is a Special School for students aged 11-19. The school has very good outdoor facilities but were looking for ways to promote the health and wellbeing of its staff and students through introducing more engaging and innovative outdoor play and sport opportunities beyond their existing traditional facilities currently on site

Due to students having a variety of needs there was a requirement to provide a wide range of products to promote physical activity. After a detailed consultation with school staff the following products were chosen for the playground refurbishment; City Bikes, Step Ups at three differing heights, BLOQX2 climbing structure and a large Wheelchair accessible Jumper.

"After the Installation works were complete, KOMPAN carried out two training sessions to all staff members to demonstrate the equipment and discuss with staff how it could be used within their own subject areas. Staff were enthusiastic and excited with ideas of how to increase active learning in the new term."

Creative and Fun Ways To Promote Learning

The site had a variety of different fitness activities, for example playground equipment has been used to represent fitness using the BLOQX 2. This creates a more playful way to exercise and thus engages the child to the site in terms of non-prescriptive activities.

Of great interest to the school was the Mathematics Schemes of Work that KOMPAN were also able to provide to further promote active learning. As providers of ‘Rebound Therapy’ it was important for Hednesford Valley High to offer this opportunity within the school site. KOMPAN were able to provide a Jumper large enough to accommodate an adult in a lying position to carry out Rebound Therapy exercises.
