A Bespoke themed Inclusive Play Space

With this being the most used play area in the borough, Telford and Wrekin Council wanted to produce a bespoke themed and inclusive play space. The design for their flagship park needed to be accessible to all ages and abilities.

The KOMPAN design presented, reflected the local history of the area. This included a miniature version of the Telford Iron Bridge using a Corocord piece. Inclusive items including a roundabout, spinner bowl and trampoline were added, plus interactive play panels. The imposing Mega Tower adds a centrepiece to the playground with its numerous exploring, climbing and sliding opportunities.

Large diggers were added to the sand play area, allowing the children to become construction workers for the day. All designs received were then put out to a public vote with the KOMPAN one coming out on top!

The new ‘wow’ play area has received amazing feedback from the local community. It is continuously busy throughout the day and has opened up play opportunities to a whole new set of children who didn’t visit the previous limited play area. The play area has had a fantastic impact on the local area becoming a real destination place to visit. It has also had a positive effect on the other facilities in the park including the adjacent cafe and ice cream van.

“We wanted to have a bespoke play area that spoke about and reflected the local area. Once we had some ideas from companies as to what they proposed for the area, we then put that out to a public vote. So what we’ve got here today is the public’s choice. The new play area has had a fantastic impact. A lot of the equipment is inclusive, so children of all abilities can come and use this play area. It’s opened it up to a whole set of different children who perhaps didn’t use the old play area.”

Challenging Rope Playground Equipment

The Corocord bridge set up by KOMPAN allows kids to mix fantasy and play to strengthen their imagination. Crossing the bridge could stimulate fantasies, such as imagining a river, leading to more vigorous play. The playground equipment also offers significant health benefits, such as bone density due to the jumping and bouncing on the Corocord.
