New Challenges For All Children

The pandemic had a huge impact on physical activity and social skills, and increased the anxiety levels of many of the students. The decision was taken to invest into bringing a playground into the school grounds. KOMPAN were chosen as the preferred partner to convert parts of the school field into having accessible, challenging, dynamic and inclusive play equipment to meet the individual needs of the students.

KOMPAN have worked with the school to create a playground that can be enjoyed by all the students. The Corocord ‘Wow’ centre piece provides the children with a variety of play value. In addition, KOMPAN installed multiple spinner bowls, a seesaw, and an agility trail for continued diversity in learning.

“The range of equipment has meant that it is inclusive for all students regardless of age and ability. Our students’ sensory needs are now being met through access to equipment that promotes climbing, balance, co-ordination and helps in building both their physical strength and confidence. Students have not only made progress within their physical development but also within their personal and social development as the range of equipment encourages them to play together”

Equal Enjoyment, Equal Play

The play equipment used has a variety of inclusive equipment to help all children develop their physical and mental strength. Wheelchair Carousels have allowed children of all abilities to enjoy and participate in the fun, encouraging children to play with everyone. Studies show that children with disabilities who play with typically developing children grow and develop their understanding of their own abilities and strengths and gain a positive self-image.

The play area needed to be exciting and inviting and give the children somewhere to look forward to going. The aim was to help the students grow in confidence within the school setting, encouraging them to interact with their peers and teachers, and at the same time help them become more physically independent and become fearless decision-makers
